I am deeply troubled by the injustices threatening our children’s future. The progress we have fought for can be undone with a single stroke of a pen, but witnessing people across the country rise to make their voices heard gives me hope.
The Day of Action, organized by the American Federation of Teachers, was a national movement that sent a clear message: We will not back down. Apathy and inaction are not options when so much is at stake. Collective action is powerful—it not only strengthens our resolve but inspires those watching from the sidelines to stand with us.
Many people are uneasy about the uncertainty we face as a country. While it is vital to stay informed and engaged, we must also act strategically. If you haven’t registered to vote, now is the time. Elections happen every two years at the local level, and midterm elections are just as crucial as presidential races. Real change starts from the ground up.
Take the time to learn who your elected leaders are—from city council members to state lawmakers and federal officials. These individuals represent our collective voice, and we must ensure they truly reflect our shared values. Let’s be informed voters and elect leaders who stand for progress and justice.
I urge everyone to be proactive, not reactive. We cannot remain silent, passively watching as our country regresses until it directly impacts us or someone we love. Unity is essential because attacks on historically marginalized groups affect all of us striving for a better future.
Movements like the Day of Action and protests across the country prove that we can set aside minor differences and come together for a common cause. Each of us has unique concerns and priorities, but we must recognize the bigger picture—our actions today will shape future generations.
It is time to have difficult conversations, even if they make people uncomfortable. The truth is not always easy to hear, but we must approach these discussions with open minds and a willingness to find common ground. If we work together, we can be on the right side of history and build a better future for all.
